Eye Drops

I always know when it is getting warm outside because we get a lot of calls from patients who have eye injuries. When everyone starts getting more active outdoors, more accidents happen. Here are a couple of tips if you get something in your eye:

1) Do not rub your eye. If you have a foreign object in your eye and you rub it, you are likely to cause scratches on the surface of the eye called a corneal abrasion. Although most abrasions will heal well, the eye is quite painful until it does.

2) Rinse your eye out with clean water or saline solution as soon as possible.

3) If your vision is affected or you continue to have pain after rinsing out the eye, call the office.

4) If you have been hammering, grinding, or possibly come into contact with high-velocity metal fragments, do not try to remove the object. You must call the office ASAP. Metal foreign objects that are stuck in the front of the eye can develop rust around them the longer they are in the eye.

Please don’t hesitate to call the office if you have injured your eye. If we are closed, call the doctor on call at 434-202-4123.
