Remember the colored contact lens craze of the 90s? It’s back, but in a much subtler way.

The new 1-Day Acuvue® Define® contact lenses work to enhance your eyes’ natural radiance. Each of the three designs – Sparkle, Shimmer and Shine – blend with your natural eye color and offer sharpness, boldness and more contrast.

The contacts, which just arrived in the U.S. after 10 years in Asia, have various shaded borders to make your eyes’ limbal rings more defined. What are limbal rings, you ask? These are the dark circles that surround your irises (the colored part of your eye). They fade with age. The 1-Day Acuvue Define lenses give definition to the limbal rings, brightening your irises and making your eyes pop.

Here is a closer look at the Sparkle, Shimmer and Shine designs.

Our patients like them for stylistic reasons. We like them because they’re single-use (daily) disposable lenses, meaning you take them out before bedtime and put in a new, sterile pair each day. We’re moving from recommending the extended-wear disposable contact lenses to dailies, even for patients who can tolerate extended wear. Daily disposable lenses are healthier (no build-up of protein, calcium, lipids or other substances), more convenient (no cleaning required!), and can’t be worn overnight (we recommend this for all of our contacts anyways).
